What Does It Really Mean to Be Authentic?
Authenticity is more than being yourself. It is learning to live honestly, align your choices with your values, take responsibility for who you are becoming, and stop allowing the expectations of others to define your life. There is a phrase we hear constantly: “Just be yourself.” It sounds simple. But what does it actually mean? In a world shaped by social media, comparison, expectations, approval, pressure and constantly changing definitions of success, being yourself can become surprisingly difficult. Sometimes we learn to present the version of ourselves that receives the most acceptance. We say what people want to hear. We pursue what looks impressive. We hide parts of ourselves that we think will be rejected.
